Stress Reduction

A primary benefit of acupuncture treatment is to relieve stress. Acupuncture has a history of proven results for instant stress relief. Medical research has shown that the brain chemical serotonin is released during acupuncture treatment, providing feelings of deep relaxation and well-being.

Higher levels of anxiety have been implicated in lower conception rates. Stress and overwork boost heart attack risk and aggravate conditions such as Irritable Bowel Disease. Stress and isolation may also increase the risk of Breast Cancer.

GLCA recommends regular visits for our clients to alleviate current stress—which underlies all illness and discomfort—and to prevent future stress from taking root in the body.

I came to see Dr. Anahita feeling very upset about whatever was consuming me in my life. I was holding onto my stress during the first half of the treatment. By the time I was done I had completely let go of all the bad emotions I was harboring. My body felt relaxed and my mind clear. I felt happy and engaged in life and ready to go about the rest of my day. Thank You Dr. Anahita! — T.C.

Oncology Support

GLCA incorporates the latest research to guide and support cancer patients on the path of healing. As a specialist in integrative oncology, Dr. Anahita Forati is actively involved in current clinical trials that will advance the evidence base for the use of Acupuncture and Chinese Herbs in cancer treatment in the United States.

According to the World Health Organization, Acupuncture has been proven effective in reducing common side effects of cancer treatment including: decreasing or eliminating symptoms of nausea and vomiting from chemotherapy; managing peripheral neuropathy; aiding in sleep; and alleviating depression. Chinese medicinal herbs have been shown to boost the immune system and increase blood cell production.

Herbs and acupuncture together may encourage cancer to stay in remission after chemotherapy and radiation treatments have ended.

I've been dealing with an ongoing problem for almost four years... In the two months since I've been going to Anahita, she's been inexhaustible, trying a number of treatments, prescribing different herbs, doing more than a bit of research on her own, and discussing with me external factors that may be contributing to my ailment, including diet, lifestyle and stress... pretty much an all-around acupuncturist, with results: I'm better now than I've been for almost two years! — D.M.

Gynecology • Fertility • Reproduction

GLCA clinician Dr. Jamie Hampton is a specialist in women’s health and gynecology, as well as fertility support for both men and women. Dr. Hampton works with individuals and couples seeking to improve fertility while trying to conceive, whether naturally or in conjunction with medical interventions—including IUI and IVF procedures.

Traditional Chinese Medicine with its emphasis on cycles and balance is an ideal modality for addressing issues related to the female body including: endometriosis, fibroids, irregular menses, painful menstruation, and infertility. For men, acupuncture and herbal prescriptions are effective in helping to raise sperm motility and morphology, increasing the chances of conception.

The process of trying to conceive can be extremely stressful. Stress negatively affects the menstrual cycle and disrupts hormone production. Acupuncture treatments can alleviate stress and encourage hormonal balance, improving the odds of reproductive success.

Every day was like an emotional roller coaster...
I used to have headaches several times a week,
(now I am down) to once or no headaches! And
BEST OF ALL: I haven't had any pain from my endometriosis, which is almost completely gone! Around ovulation time I used to wake up shaking in the middle of the night... Thank you, Dr. Jamie! — C.A.

Gender Transition • LGBTQ

Our clinic is a place where individuals undergoing gender transition (MtF or FtM) can be comfortable. At GLCA, we have experience working with transitioning individuals, either at the beginning of the journey and in need of support to prepare for hormones and/or surgery, or for those who have been transitioning for years and are seeking healthcare for other issues.

We are also experienced working with members of the LGBTQ community who are looking for a safe and supportive environment to pursue reproductive options. We offer acupuncture and herbal treatments for fertility, gynecology, and sperm count and motility issues.

We are dedicated to making sure all of our patients feel welcome and supported.

I have been coming to the clinic for eight months now and have seen so many positive changes in my energy and pain management. I had surgery about a month ago and haven't been able to get treatments until yesterday... Today I woke up feeling rested and energized. Just one treatment and I'm feeling like more like I did before my surgery, able-bodied and ready for life! Thanks Anahita! — E.S.

Sports • Orthopedics • Pain Management

Injured muscles don’t work properly; in a sense, a switch gets flipped and they are “turned off.” The body compensates, putting stress on other muscles, which causes more strain, and puls the skeleton out of alignment. Acupuncture can be used as a diagnostic tool to determine which muscles are not functioning optimally, and then turn specific muscles back “on.” As recognized by the World Health Organization, regular acupuncture treatment can enhance athletic performance by both accelerating recovery from past injuries and helping to prevent future injuries.

GLCA’s clinicians combine western medical knowledge of the myofacial system with Chinese medical knowledge of muscle motor points (areas within the muscle where spinal nerve innervates with and feeds the muscle) to help patients resolve pain and restore functioning to muscles and joints. We work with a patient’s team of health care providers—physical therapists, massage therapists, and orthopedic doctors—to enhance and speed healing.

For two years I suffered a deep and painful neck-whiplash from an accident - modern Western medicine (UCSF) could not abate, or even locate. But Jamie Hampton and her sweet needles found the culprit, relieved the tension and put me on the road to recovery - reducing the pain 70 percent in two treatments. — A.W.

Facial Skin Rejuvenation

Facial Skin Rejuvenation treatment is a safe, effective, and natural technique for reducing the signs of aging. Clients experience a gradual improvement of skin tone and luminosity, resulting in a youthful, dewy look.

Acupuncture Facial Rejuvenation can be used to target specific areas of concern including: crow's feet, naso-labial folds (smile lines), pre-jowl suculus (marionette lines), and deep furrows in the brow or forehead. Acupuncture, massage, and herbal masks trigger the body’s own natural healing systems to repair and nourish skin cells and reduce fine lines, improving overall skin health and appearance.

Each Facial Skin Rejuvenation treatment session includes:

  • Constitutional acupuncture to address systemic imbalances
  • Facial acupuncture in areas of concern
  • Microcurrent massage
  • Deep moisture treatment

Facial Skin Rejuvenation is a gentle and gradual process. An initial series of 12 appointments over 6 weeks is recommended for optimal results. One appointment per month is recommended thereafter to maintain the effects. (These are general guidelines. Individual results may vary.)

Optimal Health & Wellness

Traditional Chinese Medicine is ideal for the ongoing maintenance of health and wellness. Regular acupuncture and herbal prescriptions can not only help people recover more quickly from seasonal illnesses such as colds, flu, and allergies, but also prevent illness by keeping the body’s immune system tuned-up.

Each season has a particular color, element, organ, and list of optimal healing foods. For example lungs are exposed in fall, a season of metal and dryness, frequently leading to coughs and other lung-related illnesses, and increased difficulties for people with chronic lung issues. We begin working with our patients during summer to strengthen metal, via acupuncture, herbs, and diet, to support the lungs.

In order to help our patients prepare for each season, we provide treatments that address the coming stressors, working with the body to strengthen the elements that are likely to be impacted.

With pains ranging from joint and muscle to severe depression, I was feeling like a lost cause. During one especially dark day, before the treatment the acupuncturist looked me in the eye and said, "We are going to make this better." And she was right. I don't know of an allopathic doctor who would be so caring and committed. Thank you, Golden Leaf! — G.J.
